Destiny Watson
Founder & CEO |
At the age of 16 in 2014, Destiny Watson founded You Matter 2. The mission of You Matter 2 is to inspire and empower youth to be world changers. You Matter 2 first started off as an Instagram page that Destiny created to motivate and uplift teens. Destiny Watson graduated from Homewood Flossmoor High School in 2016, and since then has received her Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights Studies from the University of Dayton. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Nonprofit Administration at North Park University and hopes to expand You Matter 2 into a youth development center.
Destiny's efforts has been recognized at We Day Illinois, an event which celebrates youth involved in service. Destiny has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, on the Chicago Community Trust’s website, a Life Time show called "Live Life Forward", Windy City Live, and on the Chicago ABC Channel 7 News. Destiny was invited to speak at a WE Day Illinois kick-off event to share her service story. Magic Johnson was in the audience, and was so impressed with her work that he pledged to fund her college career. Destiny is truly doing her all to leave her mark on the world. Destiny spends a lot of her time volunteering with various organizations, such as, Operation Snowball where she has served as a small group leader, overall director, and support staff. Destiny gives a lot of credit to this program for bringing out the leadership she didn't know she had. Destiny believes in empowering youth and living healthy lifestyles and through You Matter 2 and Operation Snowball she is doing just that. "As the sun rises, it delivers a present, 24 hours to make a change in the world, whether it’s getting a stranger to smile or getting through 5 chapters of exam work- it’s a change. If we went to bed every night and thought about all we achieved in those 24 hours and challenged ourselves to achieve one more thing each day- just imagine what the world would look like. So here is the challenge to you: what did you achieve today and what are you going to do with your next gift of 24 hours?" -K Slater. What are you going to do differently today?" |
