Part-Time Youth Program Worker

Reports to: Youth Program Coordinator
Position Status: Part-Time
Location: 2218 Hutchison Rd, Flossmoor, IL, 60422
Compensation: $20/hr
Start Date: January 8, 2024

JOB SUMMARY
Our youth development programs are focused on empowering 6th-12th grade students to reach their full potential. We believe that youth are not problems to be solved, but rather they are the problem-solvers of our future. Our programs provide a safe and supportive environment where students can build positive relationships with peers and mentors, develop leadership skills, and explore their passions. ​Our programs are open to all students who wish to participate, and we encourage everyone to join us on this journey of personal growth and development. Through our youth development programs, we aim to inspire and support the next generation of leaders who will shape our communities and our world.

You Matter 2 is looking for an experienced and passionate person to join our team. Youth Program Workers will provide support through the form of supervision, planning, facilitation, and/or mentorship for our middle and high school youth participants to ensure that each experience is positive and intentional. Our Youth Program Workers plan and implement curriculum that will enable youth to participate in a fun, safe, social, and educational  experience. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitate activities for a group of up to 30 students
  • Plan and implement lessons that focus on STEAM, social emotional enrichment
  • Provide support and supervision during field trips and off site activities
  • Build positive relationships with youth and support their success and well being
  • Supervise youth during program hours in a safe, sensitive, developmentally appropriate, positive manner
  • Help youth build healthy positive relationships with their peers and adults
  • Demonstrate professional behavior that supports team efforts and enhances team behavior
  • Communicate with youth, parents, and families through emails, phone calls, and in person
  • Maintain timely and accurate records concerning youth participation and outcomes needed ​


Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education
  • A minimum of 30 hours of college credit in a related field

Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e., Sociology, Education, Social Work).

Experience
  • Experience leading educational curriculum for groups of 10 or more youth.
  • A deep passion for working with youth and families.
  • A strong sense of teamwork, leadership skills, and project management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of team members and youth.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, emotional maturity, and credibility; a demonstrated history of using good judgment.

Preferred Experience
  • At least 1-year previous experience working with groups of middle and/or high school aged youth in an after school or camp setting
  • Experience leading STEAM, literacy, business, and/or social-emotional workshops for middle  and/or high school aged youth.

Working Conditions:
This position may require some evenings and weekends to accommodate program activities and community events. The Youth Program Worker will primarily work in an office environment but may also be required to travel for meetings and program-related activities.​
