Part-Time Youth Program Worker

Compensation: $15/hour
Time Commitment: 20 hours per week, June 5th - July 28th, 2023.
Founded in 2014, You Matter 2 provides South Suburban youth and families with opportunities to develop leaders and engage communities through exposure to new experiences, building connections, and highlighting cultural heritage. Each year, You Matter 2 provides over 1,000 youth with holistic, out-of-school support, including afterschool and summer learning programs, and experiential learning through partnerships. The organization is in a transition period, growing to become the go-to youth and community serving organization across the Chicago Southland. Our staff is a diverse collection of passionate individuals, committed to social justice, trauma-informed care, inclusion, equity, and anti-racist ideologies, and helping youth realize their full potential.
Job Summary
You Matter 2 is looking for an experienced and passionate person to join our team. Youth Program Workers will provide support through the form of supervision, planning, facilitation, and/or mentorship for our middle and high school youth participants to ensure that each experience is positive and intentional. There shall be a capacity of no more than 30 students. Our Youth Program Workers plan and implement a summer camp curriculum that will enable youth to participate in a fun, safe, social, and educational experience.

- The Youth Program Worker will facilitate 1 of 2 You Matter 2 programs at Flossmoor Community Church
- G.A.M.E. Changers | Gaining Authentic Meaningful Experiences | G.A.M.E. Changers is a summer experience for middle school students to gain meaningful experiences and connections through socializing, creativity, physical activities, exploration, and reflection. Students will be exposed to new experiences, hands-on activities, field trips, and more!
- G.E.M.S. | Growing Entrepreneurial Mindsets & Skills | G.E.M.S. is an immersion learning experience for 10th-12th grade students to explore the world of entrepreneurship by collaborating with peers to create an innovative business and product solving a real-world problem, deliver an elevator pitch, and understand the basic principles needed to open and run a business.
- This is a seasonal, temporary position paying $15/hour.
- Youth workers assignment will begin June 6, 2023 with training; Tuesday - Thursdau from 9:00 am - 3:00pm and programming going from June 13, 2023 - July 28, 2023. Expected schedules will include hours on Mondays from 9:30 am -11:30 am and Tuesday - Thursday from 9:30 am - 3:40 pm.
- Facilitate activities for a group of up to 30 students
- Plan and implement lessons that focus on STEAM, social emotional enrichment
- Provide support and supervision during field trips and off site activities
- Build positive relationships with youth and support their success and well being
- Supervise youth during program hours in a safe, sensitive, developmentally appropriate, positive manner
- Help youth build healthy positive relationships with their peers and adults
- Demonstrate professional behavior that supports team efforts and enhances team behavior
- Communicate with youth, parents, and families through emails, phone calls, and in person
- Maintain timely and accurate records concerning youth participation and outcomes needed
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education
- A minimum of 30 hours of college credit in a related field
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e., Sociology, Education, Social Work)
Experience
- Experience leading educational curriculum for groups of 10 or more youth.
- A deep passion for working with youth and families.
- A strong sense of teamwork, leadership skills, and project management skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of team members and youth.
- Personal qualities of integrity, emotional maturity, and credibility; a demonstrated history of using good judgment.
- Experience leading STEAM, literacy, business, and/or social-emotional workshops for middle and/or high school aged youth.
- Proficient working with computers and Google Drive software (i.e. Docs, Sheets).
Preferred Experience
- At least 1-year previous experience working with groups of middle and/or high school aged youth in an after school or camp setting
- Experience leading STEAM, literacy, business, and/or social-emotional workshops for middle and/or high school aged youth.
