The Lawrence Watson Memorial Scholarship
The Lawrence Watson Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the life and legacy of Lawrence Watson who was a loving father, son, brother and friend to many. Lawrence, an unarmed Black man, at the age of 29, lost his life to senseless & excessive police brutality and violence in April 2004 by the hands of the Chicago Police Department. Lawrence valued his education, and completed his courses at Devry University to receive his Bachelor’s Degree, but unfortunately did not see the day to walk across the stage. This scholarship will assist a young Black boy or girl in continuing their education, while also honoring the life of Lawrence. This scholarship will be awarded to You Matter 2 outgoing seniors on an annual basis.
