Bookkeeper Volunteer
Summary
This position is responsible for performing a variety of bookkeeping and accounting duties including financial record keeping and transactions such as accounts payable, receivable, and the general ledger. The desired individual will have advanced experience with QuickBooks and experience working in the nonprofit setting, an outgoing and friendly personality, demonstrated professionalism and tact in communications with a diversity of individuals, strong organizational and time management skills, acute attention to detail and ability to work well with the company’s administrative team and directors.

Time Commitment
You Matter 2 requests that Bookkeeper Volunteers commit to at least 1, 2-4 hour shift weekly, for 6 months. Volunteers are allowed full flexibility in scheduling shifts. You Matter 2 fully recognizes that burnout is a real issue in today’s world and in this line of work. We encourage volunteers to take time off as needed for self-care.

Training & Supervision
- Attends general volunteer orientation
- Training and supervision conducted by: Destiny Watson or other designated trainer
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and thorough financial records of the organization
- Organize and record cash, check, and online donations to the organization
- Ensures that all expenses are appropriately recorded and categorized to accommodate year end reports
- Organize and file digital and physical copies of organization receipts
- Manages accurate records including contracts, invoices, receipts, and deposit slips.
- Assists with special projects or does research as assigned.
- Assists in the development and implementation of systems and procedures as needed.
- Provides recommendations for fund accounting and cyclical expenses
- Alerts the CEO to past-due accounts and potential account issues in a timely manner.
Requirements
- Experience in business, accounting, management , or bookkeeping preferred
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks/Wave
- Additional proficiency in Windows and Macintosh operating systems and with Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Docs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to manage priorities

- Reliability, professionalism and excellent skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong mathematical skills
- Nonprofit experience is a plus
